We are a Corpus Christi-based, grassroots, (pending not-for-profit), non-political, non-governmental organization advocating for the enforcement of the Texas Open Beaches Act. We are dedicated to protecting and enhancing the survival of the Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle and preserving public access to Texas beaches.

A deeper understanding requires knowledge and awareness of these critical and elements as they are all not just connected...but interwoven:
Some say that economic impact is around $30 million annually.

The Padre Island National Seashore (PINS) Sea Turtle Science and Recovery Program is in the process of being reorganized under Superintendent Eric Brunnemann.
This program has been around since the 1970s, and it is responsible for the conservation of sea turtles. Since the 1970s, Park Service staff and volunteers at PINS have worked to conserve the Kemp's Ridley. World famous public hatching releases have gone from close to 25 a year, down to just to 5...and public vehicle access to the 60 miles of beach are at risk of being lost.
The STRP will soon merge with the Science and Resources Management Division of PINS. Too say that it will have a negative impact on the beloved program is an understatement. The program is being decimated before our eyes.
The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) has said that it will NOT provide any funding to the sea turtle nest detection and protection until the National Park Service (NPS) permanently gets vehicles off the beach at PAIS and stops relocating nests.
The NPS has failed to aggressively pursue funding stemming from the Deepwater Horizon Restoration Funding...costing Texas projects millions of dollars.
There is no question as to the negative impact on the local economy.
Visitors from all over the world come to witness the releases and when they do they spend money. Hotels, restaurants, shopping, fishing gear and so on. Some say that economic impact is around $30 million annually.
